Stylists: Vacation days

Vacations are planned.  Sickness and emergencies are not. We usually plan our vacations well in advance to make sure that we have our schedules blocked. The strategy is: carve out extra work hours, especially during spring and fall when it's busiest to buy back some days from vacation  to bank for sick/emergency days throughout the year. This will put you in the control seat, which will give your wallet and your hourly paid co-workers peace of mind.

If stylists are not available to work,  clients cannot book, which impacts hourly paid employees' workdays and the salon’s bottom line. 

Balancing these hours is the year is key to absorb the inconsistencies in our industry. 

Vacation Days (Jan 1-Dec 31st): BEGINNING STYLISTS  thru LEVEL 5 STYLISTS

Stylists’ workdays are not guaranteed. Guest cancellations and no shows are inevitable!  Be PROACTIVE to balance out inconsistencies by planning ahead ideally at the beginning of the calendar year for vacation days:

You get:

3 weeks plus the holidays of: Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, New Years Day, July 4th and Thanksgiving.

( “a week” is your work week broken down into hours.  Ex: If you work 33 hours (3.75 days) a week, this is your “week” which accounts for full days along with arriving late/leaving early in a day) …week btwn xmas and new years is a part of the 3 weeks vacation. Working days must be hand picked with manager and owner for that week starting mid November.

Sick Days, etc  as needed:

  • Any travel and out of salon class days related to advancing education 

  • Up to 3 Bereavement Days 

  • Jury Duty Days

  • One week of sick/emergency (if you go over this “week” you must make up the hours)
