From Fringe to Frontline of Curls

The Story Behind South Philly’s Curl Culture Hub

Fringe Salon began as a bold, alternative beauty space — a creative refuge for those who wanted something different. Over time, we listened more closely to our community and our clients, and one truth kept coming through: natural hair needed a new kind of salon experience.

So we evolved.

Today, Fringe Salon South Philly is proud to be a curl-focused salon dedicated to empowering clients with wavy, curly, and coily textures. Our journey from edgy underdog to trusted curl specialists has been shaped by a deep commitment to education, artistry, and radical self-acceptance. Peep our shout out from a Modern Salon article on the current curl movement!

What We Believe In

At Fringe, our mission goes beyond great hair. We’re here to create a space where identity, creativity, and community intersect.

Self-Acceptance

We believe that embracing your natural texture is powerful. Our work is about making you feel seen, heard, and celebrated — just as you are.

Sustainability Always

We’re proudly a Green Circle Certified Salon, meaning we divert up to 95% of salon waste away from landfills — from foils and color tubes to hair clippings.

Education First

We don’t gatekeep knowledge. From curl care routines to product guidance, we’re here to share everything we know so you can understand and love your texture at home, not just in our chair.

Community-Fueled

We’re rooted in South Philly’s eclectic, diverse energy, early adopters at The Bok Building! We give back through local art shows, neighborhood events, and curl-centric gatherings that build meaningful connections.

Meet the Stylists Behind the Scissors

Our team is made up of curly-trained, texture-savvy stylists who are passionate about creating shape, moisture, and movement without compromising your natural pattern. We’re artists, educators, and curl nerds who know that no two heads of hair — or stories — are the same.

Vidal and Sassoon

Vidal and brother Sassoon have been a part of the Fringe Salon family since June of 2022. In fact, Fringe is their home! They are the sweetest boys, both love belly rubs! Vidal is our introvert who loves his feather toys. Sassoon is our extrovert, and loves to snuggle on your lap beneath the cutting cape.

Fun facts about our cats:

  1. Litter mates and brothers, Vidal and Sassoon are from West Philly, found on Delancey Street, rescued and adopted out by Project Meow

  2. Vidal and Sassoon are named after the most famous hairstylist that has and will ever live, Vidal Sassoon. That is his real name.  Look him up! You will recognize his work!

  3. "The Boys" (as we call them) are so food motivated that we have had to triple lock our breakroom so they do not break in at night and steal our snacks or knock over the trash can. Otherwise, they are perfect gems!

Not Just a Salon — A Creative Space

When you walk into Fringe, you’re stepping into more than a hair appointment. You’re entering an art-forward, inclusive environment where Philly’s creative spirit thrives. Our rotating in-house art gallery showcases local talent, and our event nights bring together clients, artists, musicians, and curl friends for real community.

We believe that beauty and creativity belong to everyone — and that the best salons feel like home, studio, and a safe space all at once.
